WORKING IN NORWAY - INFORMATION

Sunday, September 4, 2011

The past couple of weeks, I have been on constant thought about how much people will go in order for them to  grab an opportunity and see where chance can lead them to.

There had been a couple of readers who sent me PMs asking how to apply working here in Norway. I think it's great there are those who take interest and time on sending me emails/PM's and in return, I try my best to reply and shed light on their inquiries.

DISCLAIMER: I am not related to any government office/ agency or institute related to immigration and working niether in Norway and Philippines. I am just a humble "norsk sykepleier" (Norwegian R.N.) who wishes to help and share the steps I did back then.

NOTE: YOU CAN APPLY BY YOURSELF.

1. APPLY FOR AN "AUTORISASJON" (license) at SAK.

Statens Autorisasjonskontor for helsepersonell (SAK), formerly known as SAFH (Statens Autorisasjonskontor for Helsepersonell)  - SAK is the Norwegian Registration Authority for Health Personnel, which responsible for granting the professional authorisation which is required for practising the applicants' profession within the legally regulated health personnel categories. Authorisation represents full and permanent approval, while licences impose one or more limitations with respect to duration, independent or supervised practise, etc.

For the step by step on applying in SAK, please click this LINK.

NOTE: The Autorisasjon does not cost that much, you will receive a bill of statement from SAK and pay a certain amount to their bank account. I have heard stories from victims who paid almost 3500USD (17500NOK) to a "MIDDLE MAN" to get an autorisasjon.  Beware of swindlers, there are many out there! Also, WHENEVER YOU PAY for something, ALWAYS ASK FOR A RECEIPT stating exactly what was the paid amount for.

Ok, now you've got your autorisasjon, what's next?

2. APPLY FOR A Permanent Resident Permit for Learning Norwegian at the NORWEGIAN EMBASSY

UPDATE # 1: As of the 15th January 2013, it will no longer be possible to apply for a residence permit for specialists or a residence permit for skilled jobseekers. Those who applied before 15th January, will have their application fee refunded. See link here.

UPDATE #2: As of May 15th 2014, it is no longer possible to apply for a residence permit for Norwegian studies for skilled workers.
If you applied before May 15th, the UDI will continue to process your application as normal. The application will be considered according to the rules described on this page.
If you apply for a residence permit for skilled workers who are going to study Norwegian after May 14th, your application will be rejected.

To apply for a Visa (for Philippines), visit the official website of the Norwegian Embassy in the Philippines for information on working  and visa in Norway or you go visit www.udi.no, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration’s (UDI).

The steps and requirements are found on their website and from there you can start applying for a visa to work in Norway. Should you have questions, it is always better to email directly to the embassy or UDI.

***Kindly email me ( my contact details on the right side of the site) if you have more questions. :) It is  my intention to spread information to my fellow nurses who wish to work here in Norway, as to avoid landing in the hands of swindlers with false promises. I know, when an opportunity knocks at your door, we answer to its call right away without taking caution and researching first about it. We all dream of greener pastures. I, however, urge my fellow Filipino nurses, to be careful and be vigilant. Seek for information first and do your homework. :)

hi! thank you for your blog. it's very informative :-) do you have any idea if there are filipino nurses here in norway who started looking for a job here and not from the philippines? what if the applicant is an au pair based here in norway? thank you very much :-)

Unknown said...

hello sansu! I think all that an au pair needs to do is to apply for autorisasjon som helsefagarbeid t SAFH. After that you can look for a job in the health field.

hi Hi im interested in working in norway as an auxilliary nurse first. i just want to ask if that's equivalent to caregiver or not please give me some info or clear idea about that and once i get there is it easy to look for work as an auxilliary nurse ?? heres my email add oliverbryan08@gmail.com im looking forwad for yor answer thank you

hi kailangan b registered nurse kpg apply ng work dyan sa norway

Unknown said...

Auxillary nurse is not caregiver. The closest I can compare it to is LVN. Auxillary nurses can give observations to the nurse, give medicines (oral and topical only) after passing exam, taking Vital signs and other nursing tasks which can be delegated to LVN´s, and lastly you also perform the tasks of a caregiver.

You´re welcome. Good Luck!

Hi Baby. If you mean by being RN in the Philippines... Here is the checklist of requirements when you apply for an authorization in SAK (see the link on the SAK above on my post):

 Passport

Diploma/records for all relevant education. (Certified copies of your grades alone do not suffice)

Attach a detailed overview of your educational institutions including a presentation of the tutorial programme. Theoretical classes you have followed should be listed by the number of hours, and conducted practice by the number of weeks/hours spent within each department. Remember to mention at what time the education was initiated and at what time it was finalised.

Attach a confirmation from your previous employers of your working experience from the time after your final exams and forward. This must include at what time you started working and eventually the ending date, as well as working area and field of experience. If you have not been employed after the finalisation of your education, you must include this information.

Attach a «Certificate of Current Professional Status» confirming your certified authorisation in the respective country. This declaration cannot be older than 3 months.

I assume that CERTIFICATE OF CURRENT PROFESSIONAL STATUS is documented by your PRC license. However, if you have not passed the board exams, this should also be documented. .:)

Hi Diana,

Thank you for shedding light in my blurry journey for Norway License application, your post is by far the most helpful 😊 Anyway I just want to ask if the CERTIFICATE OF CURRENT PROFESSIONAL STATUS is a certified photo copy of my PRC license or is it a piece of paper that I have to ask from PRC?

Thanks!

Hi,
I'm interested in moving to Norway to work. My status now is that, I am a registered nurse, experience was only a year (DOH-RNHEALS 2013). Two months J.O. in a 100 bed capacity hospital. Currently, I am living and working in Finland. My residence permit is expiring this April 2018, so I applied for extension. I work in a nursing home, but not as an LPN nor health practitioner, rather as a siivoja. haha.. I speak a little finnish. I am almost 5 months old here. Yes, I came late. Should've been a year already. Now, one of my co-workers in the nursing home, a lahihoitaja or LPN, told me about this opportunity in Norway. However, there was a wee bit problem with the language barrier. I didn't understand all of what he said, but from what I understood was that, my residence permit can be used to find a work inside the Nordic countries. He suggested that I should pass a CV directly to the employer in Norway. Odds are, I have 0% knowledge about the qualifying exams to be called a "nurse" in Norway-- let alone norwegian language. However, it is possible that, while working, I could enroll in language class according to him.... I have a lot of queries in mind yet, but please let me know other options. Thank you po.
